I remember seeing old clips of Eugenia Cooney before her appearance changed so drastically, and she seemed much more energetic and relaxed. Her style was already very alternative, but it came across as playful instead of being the main thing people focused on. She smiled more naturally too, at least from what I remember.
It’s sad looking back because knowing what happened later makes those videos feel different. Does anyone know which older videos show her personality best before the eating disorder became so visible?

The older gaming and Q&A clips show that playful side best, I think. She seemed more focused on the game or the conversation, and the clothes were just part of her style instead of the whole subject.
I get what you mean about the smiling too. Watching those clips now can feel uncomfortable, since people tend to study every little detail with hindsight. I try to remember there was a person there, not just a before-and-after image.

One thing that helped me watch older videos more respectfully was focusing on what she was saying and doing instead of pausing to compare her body. The before-and-after framing can get really dehumanizing.
