This makes me think about how OCD can manifest in so many different ways. For me, it often feels like a constant background hum—something I’ve learned to live with, but it can be really distracting at times.
One of my quirks is the need to check things multiple times. Whether it’s locking the door or turning off appliances, I find myself going back just to make sure. It’s almost like I need that extra reassurance to quiet the anxious thoughts swirling in my mind. I’ve started to set little rituals for myself to help manage it, like counting to ten after checking. It’s a small way to give myself permission to move on, but some days it feels like running a marathon.
Then there’s the organizing—oh, the organizing! My spaces often need to be just so, whether it’s my desk or my closet. I can spend ages rearranging things until it feels “right.” I know it sounds a bit excessive, but there’s a strange satisfaction when everything is in order. It’s as if I’m trying to create a sense of control in a world that often feels chaotic.
And don’t even get me started on the intrusive thoughts. Those can hit out of nowhere and really throw me off. I’ve learned to recognize them for what they are—just thoughts—and not let them define my day. It’s taken a lot of practice, and I still have my moments of doubt.
But what’s really helped me is connecting with others who get it. Hearing about their experiences—how they cope, what works for them—has been such a relief. It’s like sharing a secret language, and it reminds me I’m not alone in this. So, I’d love to hear your thoughts: What are some of your quirks, and how do you navigate them?
