Eating feels unsafe for me right now, which makes recovery feel backwards sometimes. I know I need regular food, but my body reacts with fear before I even take a bite. Then I feel guilty for being scared, which only makes it harder.
I’m trying to keep things simple and focus on getting through one meal at a time. Some days that means safe foods, small portions, or eating with someone nearby. I’m learning that feeling uncomfortable doesn’t always mean I’m in danger, even though it feels that way.
I’m still working on trusting my body again.

The fear before the first bite sounds exhausting, especially when guilt gets added on top of it. You’re not doing recovery wrong because your body needs time to catch up with what you understand mentally.
Keeping meals simple and having someone nearby sounds like a sensible way to make them feel more manageable. I’ve found that getting through one small step can build a little trust, even when the discomfort hasn’t disappeared yet. Be gentle with yourself about the fear. It isn’t a failure.

@Victor_Williams, the point about the body needing time to catch up really landed with me. I’ve had moments where I understood something logically, but my reactions were still stuck in alarm mode. That gap can be frustrating.
The idea of counting one small step as progress helps. Sometimes I need to focus only on sitting down with the food, or taking one bite, instead of expecting the whole meal to feel normal. Do you find it easier when someone talks with you during the meal, or is quiet company better?
@Victor_Williams, the part about the body needing time to catch up makes a lot of sense. I’ve had that same split where my head knows I’m safe, but my body is still acting like something bad is about to happen. It’s frustrating, but not proof that I’m failing.
I like your point about counting one small step. Sometimes sitting down with the food is all I can manage at first, then maybe one bite later. Having someone nearby helps me more than being pushed to talk through it. Quiet company can make the meal feel less like a test.
