Trying to find the right support in new glasgow

Finding the right support in New Glasgow has been harder than I expected. There are services around, but figuring out where to start can feel like another problem on top of everything else. One place points you somewhere else, then you end up repeating the same story to somebody new.

I’ve been trying to find help that covers both mental health and addiction instead of treating them like two completely separate issues. My anxiety and low moods tend to feed into the other stuff, so focusing on only one part hasn’t really worked for me.

I’m not looking for someone to fix everything overnight. I’d just like consistent support, a clear next step, and somebody who understands that slipping up doesn’t mean I’ve stopped trying. If anyone has found a service or group in the New Glasgow area that was actually helpful, I’d appreciate hearing about it.

@Edward_Hull, the constant referrals and having to repeat everything can be exhausting in itself. I’ve found that writing down the main points before calling helps a little, especially asking directly whether they support both mental health and substance use.

The part about slipping up not meaning you’ve stopped trying really matters. A service that treats setbacks as information instead of failure seems far more useful. Have you been able to ask any of the New Glasgow services about integrated support, or are they still sending you between separate programs?

The repeating-your-story part wears me down quickly. I once kept a short note on my phone with the main details, what I needed, and which services I’d already contacted. It didn’t solve the referral maze, but it stopped me having to rebuild the whole explanation every time.

Wanting support that treats anxiety, low mood, and addiction together makes sense. A setback shouldn’t erase the work you’ve already put in.

@Robin_Chang, keeping that note on your phone sounds genuinely useful. I’ve done something similar before, and having the details in front of me made phone calls feel less overwhelming when I was already stressed.

The part about not having to rebuild the whole explanation stood out. Repeating everything can make it feel like none of the previous conversations counted.
