I’ve been looking into natural options for depression, but I’m not planning to stop my regular medication. I’ve had one bad experience tapering too quickly in the past, and the crash afterward made me much more cautious.
Right now I’m thinking about small additions like regular morning walks, omega-3s, and maybe checking my vitamin levels before taking anything. I’m avoiding St. John’s wort because I’ve read it can interact with antidepressants and other medications. Even supplements that seem harmless probably deserve a conversation with my doctor or pharmacist first.
Has anyone tried adding natural approaches while staying on their prescribed treatment, and what seemed genuinely helpful?

@Sarah_Turner, checking vitamin levels first sounds sensible, especially since low levels can overlap with depression symptoms. I’d definitely run omega-3s past your pharmacist too, since even basic supplements can matter with other medications.
Morning walks helped me more when I kept the goal small, like ten minutes around the block instead of expecting a full workout. The daylight and routine made a difference, and I could build from there without changing my prescription.

@Yvette_Richardson, the ten-minute goal is a great idea. I tend to turn “go for a walk” into a whole fitness project, then skip it when I’m short on time. Keeping it to one lap around the block feels much more manageable.
I’ve noticed the daylight helps my routine too, especially when I get outside before the day gets away from me. I’d still check supplements with a pharmacist, but a short walk seems like a low-risk place to start.
@Sarah_Turner, that past tapering experience sounds frightening, so your caution makes sense. I’d be careful about changing anything without your prescriber involved too.
For me, the most useful addition was a short morning walk, even when I didn’t feel motivated. I started with about ten minutes and treated it as routine rather than exercise. I’d definitely ask a pharmacist about omega-3s and check levels before adding other supplements.
