A Quick 5-Minute Meditation That Calms My Anxiety

I wonder if you’ve ever found yourself in a moment of overwhelming anxiety, where it feels like your thoughts are racing and you can’t quite catch your breath. I certainly have. It’s funny how life can throw so much at us sometimes, and it can be hard to know where to turn for a bit of relief. Over the years, I’ve discovered that even just a few minutes of meditation can help bring me back to a calmer place.

So, I want to share this quick 5-minute meditation that has really helped me. It’s not complicated at all, which is part of what I love about it. When I’m feeling anxious, I take a moment to find a quiet space—sometimes that’s my living room, or even just sitting in my car for a few minutes. Then, I close my eyes and take a deep breath in through my nose, holding it for just a moment before slowly letting it out through my mouth.

As I breathe, I focus on counting my breaths. I’ll count to four on my inhale, hold for four, and then exhale for four. It sounds simple, but it’s amazing how centering my attention on my breath can quiet that chaotic feeling in my mind. I often notice my shoulders dropping, and my body relaxing with each exhale.

Sometimes, I visualize a peaceful place, like a quiet beach or a tranquil forest. I can actually feel the tension easing as I picture the waves or the trees swaying in the breeze. This little visualization trick helps me get out of my head and into a more grounded space.

What I really appreciate about this practice is that it fits into my day without feeling like another task on my to-do list. Just five minutes. It feels so manageable, and I often find myself feeling a little lighter afterward.

I’m curious—have any of you tried something similar? How do you find calm when anxiety hits? I’d love to hear what works for you or if you have any other quick techniques to share!
