I’m scared about taking antidepressants during pregnancy, even though I know untreated depression and anxiety can affect me too. Every appointment leaves me second-guessing the decision. I keep worrying about possible effects on the baby, but I also remember how badly I struggle when I stop medication.
My doctor has gone over the risks and benefits, and we’re using the lowest dose that keeps me functioning. Still, it’s hard not to feel guilty. Has anyone else had to make this decision?

@Rhonda_Ponce, the guilt can be so heavy, especially when you’re already doing everything you can to make a careful decision. But staying on the lowest dose that helps you function isn’t failing your baby. Your mental health is part of prenatal care too.
I’d probably keep bringing the same questions to your doctor, even if it feels repetitive, and ask what symptoms would mean the medication needs adjusting. Having a plan for check-ins would ease some of the constant second-guessing. You don’t have to make the decision feel comfortable every day for it to still be the right one.
@Rhonda_Ponce, I understand why the lowest dose still doesn’t make the worry disappear. I had a similar fear about medication during pregnancy, and what helped was writing down my questions before each appointment instead of trying to remember them while anxious.
One thing my doctor said that stayed with me was that keeping me stable was part of caring for the baby too. The guilt came and went, but I stopped treating it as proof that I was making the wrong choice.
