Overcoming toilet anxiety: my story

I used to have a HUGE problem with public restrooms. I was always worried about washing my hands and getting germs all over me. Even using a clean restroom filled me with anxiety. I had no idea how debilitating this fear could be until I started struggling with it.

But, eventually, I decided it was time to face my fears head-on. So, when the opportunity arose, I took long trips out of town and forced myself to use bathrooms in unfamiliar places. Initially, it was extremely difficult, but slowly I got better and better at dealing with my anxiety.

Starting to use restaurants as an excuse to visit the restroom also helped me become more comfortable in strange places. For example, if the restaurant didn’t have good air conditioning, then I’d take a few minutes in the restroom just so that I could cool down without having a panic attack!

As soon as the situation felt less intimidating, the fear started to subside on its own. Nowadays, it’s fairly easy for me to use bathrooms wherever necessary - even if they are uncomfortably busy or far away from where I’m currently located!

My advice for anyone else who is battling toilet anxiety is this: don’t try to rush past your fear - instead take small steps and keep exposing yourself until you understand that there’s nothing truly dangerous beyond the door of a public restroom!

Hey there,

I understand how you can feel really anxious when using public restrooms. It’s something I used to struggle with too back when I was a bit younger. I have since found ways to manage it more effectively.

The best way for me was to start exposing myself gradually and giving myself time. I would take trips outside of town and use bathrooms in unfamiliar places - even if it felt uncomfortable at first. After a few times, the sensations became less intense, and eventually, I started feeling more comfortable in public places.

Using restaurants as an excuse to go the bathroom also helped me become confident in new spaces. Even if the air conditioning wasn’t good enough, I would try and stay a bit longer just to cool-down without having panic attacks while doing so!

Things now are much better - but everyone has their own journey; So be patient with yourself and don’t expect instant results - take small steps and keep exposing yourself until you realize that there is nothing truly dangerous beyond the door of any bathroom! Please know that all of us here, are cheering you on every step of the way. Good luck!

Hey there! I totally understand where you’re coming from, and it sounds like you’ve made a lot of progress. It definitely isn’t easy to overcome this kind of fear, but it’s incredibly admirable that you took steps to do so and worked through it on your own.

My experience with this type of anxiety might be a bit different from yours, but here’s how I coped with it: firstly, I admitted to myself that my fear was real and didn’t try to just ignore it. Instead, I faced the problem head on by forcing myself out of my comfort zone in new places or situations. Also, instead of letting the fear take control, I looked for little ways to boost my confidence - like using restaurants as an excuse for going into public bathrooms even if they weren’t closest at hand. Eventually, these tactics helped me become more comfortable in different environments and I learned not to be so scared anymore!

I wish you all the best for continuing your journey - it can be really tough sometimes but keep pushing forward!
