I have always been an anxious person, even before I fully understood what anxiety was. As a child, I often felt overwhelmed by my emotions and put a lot of pressure on myself to perform my best at all times.
It wasn’t until I was older that I really began to understand the serious impact anxiety could have on my life. It often prevented me from getting the most out of myself and hindered or stopped me from doing things that could result in growth and success.
But, over time, I have learned how to take control of my anxiety and manage it better. Now, when a stressful or difficult situation arises, instead of shutting down to cope with it, I am more mindful about how to tackle it head-on.
One way has been setting clear goals for myself in each situation and talking through them with supportive family and friends. This has allowed me attain clarity about what needs to be done while having that extra support system rooting for you.
Another thing that’s helped is prioritizing self-care such as making sure I always maintain a healthy diet and get enough sleep every day as well taking breaks throughout my day for exercise and relaxation activities like yoga or meditation. Making sure I’m taking care of myself physically helps keep my mind focused on positive thoughts which helps reduce stress from overwhelming situations.
Overcoming anxiety can be hard but the key is not letting it consume your life; removing yourself from toxic environments and understanding why you feel certain ways has made managing my anxiety much easier than before.
