Ocd therapy that worked for me

I wanted to share something that’s been a real game-changer for me in dealing with OCD. For a long time, I felt pretty stuck in my routines and compulsions. It was exhausting, and honestly, it made everyday life a bit of a struggle. I tried a few different things before finding what truly worked for me, and maybe my experience can help someone else out there.

The moment I started Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), I could sense a shift. It was like I had been given a new toolkit to understand my thoughts. The idea behind CBT, especially the exposure and response prevention part, was something I hadn’t fully grasped before. The therapist guided me through situations that triggered my compulsions, and it was tough at times. Just thinking about it puts a little knot in my stomach! But the relief afterward was totally worth it.

What’s interesting is how I learned to sit with those uncomfortable feelings instead of immediately acting on my compulsions. At first, it felt impossible—like trying to hold my breath underwater. But over time, I started seeing those moments as opportunities to practice. I remember one week, I had to challenge myself to leave my house without checking the locks twenty times. It sounds small, but it was a big deal for me. Each time I did something like that, I felt a little more empowered.

I also found that finding a support group was incredibly helpful. Being around people who understood what I was going through was comforting. We would share stories, strategies, and even just laugh about the quirks of OCD. It made me feel less isolated, which was a huge part of my healing process.

I’m curious, though—what has been your experience with therapy? Have you tried different approaches, or have you found something that really resonated with you? It’s always interesting to hear how different methods work for different people, so I’d love to hear your thoughts!
