Obsessions we all have them and they can be wild

I’m curious about the types of obsessions we all deal with in our lives. It’s fascinating how our minds can latch onto certain thoughts or ideas, sometimes in ways that seem completely irrational. You know, the kind that keeps you tossing and turning at night or causes you to double-check the door is locked even when you’re sure you did it?

I’ve had my fair share of obsessions over the years. For a while, I couldn’t stop thinking about cleanliness. I mean, I was wiping down surfaces and scrubbing every corner like I was preparing for a health inspection. It wasn’t just about being tidy; it was this overwhelming fear of germs and what they might do. Eventually, I realized that it wasn’t just about cleanliness; it was more about a need for control in a chaotic world.

Then there are those obsessive thoughts about relationships—replaying conversations in my head, wondering if I said the right thing or if I came across as too intense. It’s interesting how we can become so fixated on how we’re perceived by others, isn’t it? Sometimes it feels like I’m living in a movie where I’m the star, but I’m also the critic. That mental back-and-forth can be exhausting!

But what really gets me thinking is how these obsessions might serve a purpose. They can feel heavy at times, but they also highlight what matters to us. Maybe my obsession with cleanliness signified a longing for order; the worry about relationships revealed how much I value connection. Isn’t it wild how our minds work that way?

I wonder if others feel the same. What types of obsessions have you found yourself grappling with? Do they ever lead you to deeper insights about yourself? It seems like sharing these experiences can help lighten the load a bit.
