I’m so disappointed to hear that the NYPD officers who killed Saheed Vassell will not face charges. This case is another example of how the criminal justice system fails to provide justice for victims of police violence. It’s outrageous that there is no accountability for officers when they take a life, especially when a victim is in the midst of a mental health crisis. We need to hold these officers accountable, and we need to do more to ensure that the rights and lives of people with mental illness are respected.
