Noticing the signs of ocd in my life

I found myself reflecting on my daily routines recently, and it really struck me how certain behaviors I’ve had for a long time might actually point to something more—like OCD. It’s funny how we can overlook things that have become so ingrained in our lives.

For me, it started with the little things: checking if I locked the door or turned off the stove. I’d find myself going back multiple times, just to be sure. At first, I thought it was pretty normal, you know? Just being cautious. But then I noticed it creeping into other areas of my life, too. Like, I’d spend way too much time arranging items on my desk, making sure everything was perfectly aligned. I mean, who knew a stapler could cause so much anxiety?

The more I looked into it, the more I realized that some of my thoughts felt so intrusive. I’d get stuck on certain worries that would loop around in my head like a broken record. It’s exhausting, honestly. I’d try to push those thoughts away, but they’d just bounce back, stronger than ever. I didn’t have the language for it at first; I just thought I was being overly meticulous or maybe a bit of a perfectionist.

Realizing that these behaviors might indicate something like OCD was both a relief and a bit daunting. It was like, “Oh, so this isn’t just me being quirky.” But then, I also felt a sense of validation. I mean, I’m not alone in this. So many people deal with similar issues, and I think that’s important to acknowledge.

Talking to friends about it has helped, too. It’s amazing how sharing experiences can lighten the load. I think we often feel isolated in our struggles, but when we open up, it creates this space where others can relate. Have any of you ever found yourself in a similar situation? How do you navigate those moments when your mind just won’t quiet down?
