Navigating jealousy with ocd feels like a wild ride

I found this really interesting because navigating jealousy while dealing with OCD feels like a wild ride sometimes. It’s like my mind has a mind of its own, and once jealousy gets in there, it can spiral into something overwhelming.

I remember a specific moment when a friend shared some exciting news about her promotion. Instead of feeling genuinely happy for her, my mind took a detour. The thoughts started racing: “Am I not good enough?” or “Why can’t I achieve what she has?” It’s like a little monster of insecurity started whispering in my ear, magnifying every doubt I had about myself.

What I’ve learned is that there’s this constant tug-of-war between my rational thoughts and the obsessive ones. I know, logically, that my worth isn’t tied to anyone else’s accomplishments. Yet, jealousy has this sneaky way of making me feel inadequate. It’s frustrating, for sure. Sometimes, I find myself obsessing over what I should have done differently or why I’m not where I want to be in my life. It’s exhausting just thinking about it.

Finding healthy outlets for these feelings has been helpful. Talking to friends who understand—or even journaling about it—allows me to process those emotions without letting them take over completely. I also try to refocus my energy on my own goals and what I appreciate in my life. That shift in perspective can be a game-changer!

But, on tough days, I still feel that tug of jealousy creeping in. I guess that’s part of the process, right? I’m learning to acknowledge it without judgment, reminding myself that it’s okay to have those feelings—what matters is how I respond to them.

How do you all navigate feelings of jealousy, especially if you’ve got something else in the mix, like OCD? I’d love to hear your stories or any tips you have!
