NAC seems to be making my compulsive habits worse
I started NAC hoping it might help quiet some of my repetitive urges, but I’ve noticed the opposite so far. Since taking it, I’ve been checking, picking, and getting stuck in certain routines more often. It could be coincidence, or maybe it just doesn’t agree with me.
I’m going to stop for now and keep track of what happens. Has anyone else noticed NAC increasing compulsive behavior instead of helping it?

@Kimberly_Bruce, keeping track after stopping sounds sensible. I’ve learned the hard way that even supplements with a decent reputation can affect people very differently, especially when they touch mood or reward systems.
I’d write down the dose, when you took it, sleep, caffeine, and how strong the checking or picking felt. That may help show whether NAC was involved or if something else changed at the same time. If things get much worse or don’t settle, I’d mention it to your doctor before trying it again.

@Haley_Sparks, tracking caffeine and sleep is a good point. I’ve had supplements seem fine on paper, then feel completely different after a few nights of poor sleep or extra coffee. It makes the cause harder to pin down.
I’d probably keep the notes pretty simple, dose and time, sleep, caffeine, and how intense the urges were. If stopping doesn’t calm things down, or the behavior gets harder to control, I’d check with a doctor before restarting it.
