My own list of quirks and rituals

This makes me think about the little quirks and rituals that have become part of my daily routine. You know, those habits that might seem a bit odd to outsiders but feel completely necessary to us? I’ve noticed how my own list of obsessions and compulsions has shaped my day-to-day life in ways I didn’t always realize.

For instance, I have this thing about symmetry. When I’m putting away dishes, I can’t help but arrange them in a certain order—like all the cups facing the same way and the plates stacked perfectly. It’s almost soothing, you know? I often find myself getting lost in those little moments, but at the same time, I sometimes wonder if I’m wasting time on these details.

Then there’s my morning routine. I have to brew my coffee a specific way. If for some reason I have to skip one step or change the grind of the beans, I feel off for the whole day. Can anyone else relate to this? It’s like my brain needs that ritual to kick off the day on the right foot.

And don’t even get me started on checking the locks. It’s become a bit of a ritual for me to check the front door multiple times before I can leave the house. I’ve tried to rush out without checking, but I just can’t shake that nagging feeling. There’s a strange comfort in the repetition, even if it takes a few extra minutes. It’s a little piece of control in a world that can feel pretty unpredictable, right?

I’ve also noticed that I often have to count things, whether it’s steps while walking or the number of times I touch something. At first, I thought it was silly, but it helps ground me in those moments when my mind starts racing.

What I’ve learned through all of this is that these quirks are part of who I am, and rather than seeing them as burdens, I try to embrace them. They create a sense of rhythm in my life. I’d love to hear if anyone else has their own list of rituals or habits. What do you do that brings you comfort or a little extra focus? Let’s share and support each other!
