My mental health journey with the national institute of mental health

Just over 3 years ago, I was struggling to manage my mental health. My depression and anxiety were taking over and I couldn’t seem to get a grip on it no matter what I did. I felt like giving up, but then I ended up coming across the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH).

Right away, they connected me with a doctor who specialized in treating these types of issues. Seeing them gave me so much hope. During our first session, we discussed all of the different treatments they offered and together we set up a plan for how to manage my mental health better.

From there things started improving bit by bit. We experimented with different medications until finding one that worked best with my body chemistry, implemented lifestyle changes into my everyday routine, and found new ways to cope with anxiety and depression that actually worked for me.

The NIMH also helped me find support groups within my community where I could talk to people about similar struggles and receive encouragement from those who have been through similar things. Through it all, I am continuously reminded of the importance of self-care and the power of having other people around you who understand what you are going through.

The journey wasn’t easy, but thanks to the incredible programs offered by NIMH I have been able to transform my life in positive ways that I never thought possible before coming under their care.
