My mental health journey with ptsd

I have been on an incredible journey with my mental health lately. I have been diagnosed with PTSD and it has taken me a while to understand the implications of this diagnosis fully and to know what I need to do to get the support I require.

The past few weeks have been difficult for me but also a learning experience. I’m trying to understand what works best for me in terms of managing symptoms, whether that is taking medications or talking therapies or both. Everyone’s journey is different so whatever works for me may not work for someone else, so it is important to stay in tune with my needs and ask questions when something isn’t working as well as it should be.

The best thing about my journey so far is that I’ve realised how resilient I am and how strong my relationships are too. Friends and family have given me amazing support and understanding during this time, which has helped me enormously. It’s shown me that everyone struggles sometimes, but we don’t feel alone if we reach out for help when we need it most.

Although there are times when PTSD can make life seem overwhelming, I know now that I have the resources within myself to cope even during tough days. It’s made me realise that by staying true to myself, connecting with loved ones and having self-compassion where possible then things will always get better eventually.
