It’s been a journey for me when it comes to prioritizing and taking care of my mental health. Years ago, I was content just to power through my days without giving attention to how I was feeling or why I was feeling certain ways.
But as I got older, I realized that wasn’t healthy and started paying closer attention to my thoughts and feelings. Through years of therapy, self-discovery, and support from close friends and family, I now understand what works best for me in terms of how to stay mentally well.
I’ve learned to be kinder with myself by practicing self-care though things like mediation, journaling, exercising regularly, getting enough sleep every night, eating well balanced meals and slowing down. Taking regular time away from work or other obligations also helps clear my head so that I come back refreshed and reenergized.
Overall, my mental health is in a much better place than it used to be—it’s definitely been an enlightening journey!

It sounds like you have done incredible work in understanding and promoting your own mental health. As a 52-year-old man, I know all too well how easy it is to push through difficult situations, while not making time to tend to our mental health. This can be especially true as one gets older, but thankfully now we are more aware of the importance of taking care of our mental health.
I am so glad that you found success through therapy, self discovery, and support from those close to you! It is admirable that you are doing things like exercising regularly, eating balanced meals, meditating, etc., as these healthy habits benefit us in many ways. It is also equally important to take regular time away from other obligations to clear the head and come back refreshed.
Thank you for sharing your journey with us and I wish you all the best on continuing down this path!
It sounds like it’s been a long journey for you as far as taking care of your mental health goes and that’s great that you’ve been making efforts to understand yourself better. You’ve worked hard to get to where you are today and it’s amazing that you’re now in a much better place.
I’m 35 as well, so I can relate to the difficulties that can come with age when trying to figure out how to take care of our complex minds. For me, I try to set aside some time each day for self-reflection. Whether its going for a walk or even just having tea for a few minutes by myself, it provides me with perspective and helps me stay grounded.
Another thing I focus on is my relationships with people who support me and lift me up - be it family members or close friends. It really helps when I need some validation or someone to give me an outside perspective on either work-related issues or personal ones.
I’m glad that you’re feeling better! Keep going strong and congratulations on all your hard work!

I know firsthand how hard it can be to be kind to yourself, but I think that’s a key part of taking care of our mental wellbeing. Making time for yourself has helped me immensely over the last few years—I prioritize self-care activities as much as possible and it helps me manage my stress levels even during hectic weeks.
It’s wonderful that you have such a strong support system too! Having people around who you can talk to and share your life with is worth its weight in gold—knowing there are people by your side throughout this journey really makes all the difference.
