Experiencing alcohol use disorder was one of the toughest and most humbling experiences of my life. It completely changed how I thought and felt about myself, as well as my ideas about sobriety. It took me some time to seek help for this problem and find a therapy program that worked best for me.
As soon as I started my psychological treatment, I began learning new things about myself and saw a rise in self-confidence and motivation that I had been lacking for years. With each session, I gained greater insight into why I drank in the first place and explored triggers that drove me to substance abuse. The therapist also taught me ways to exert control over thoughts or anticipations that could lead to future cravings and relapse.
It’s been almost two years since I started my journey of recovery through psychological treatment, and I’m proud of the progress that has been made! Through therapy, I have seen an incredible lift in my outlook on life. By developing better coping skills and taking steps to avoid risky situations, I am able to live a healthier, more satisfying lifestyle than before. Acknowledging this truth — that it was possible for me to get better — has motivated me to stay on the course towards a sober life without any regrets or doubts.
