Bipolar disorder isn’t something I take lightly, nor is it something that has been easy for me. It wasn’t until I saw Jim Carrey’s documentary, ‘I Needed Color’, that I began to understand what this journey was really like.
When Jim opened up about his own struggles with bipolar disorder and depression it made me realize that I wasn’t alone – and helped give me the strength to reach out for help. His words inspired me to seek professional support for my own mental health.
Through treatment, I’ve learned a lot about managing my condition through self-care, like giving myself enough rest, avoiding stressful triggers and doing activities like mindfulness meditation and yoga. It’s also important to stay connected with family and friends who can support us in whatever way we need, whether it be talking it out or doing fun activities together.
My journey towards managing bipolar disorder hasn’t been perfect but for the first time I feel empowered to start living a life that makes me happy and fulfilled instead of holding myself back from getting the best out of life due to mental health issues. And by embracing this new mindset day-by-day, I’m taking steps towards improving not only my mental wellbeing but overall quality of life too.
