2021 is a new year, and I’m ready to continue my journey with bipolar disorder. Recently, I’ve been exploring different treatment options to help me better manage my mental health.
Living with bipolar disorder is complex and unpredictable; some days are great while others can be difficult. Fortunately, I recognize the signs and triggers so that I can anticipate difficult episodes before they happen.
I spend time researching different treatments so that I can work with my medical team to come up with an individualized plan that works for me specifically. Along this journey, there have been many ups and downs, but I know there’s still more out there for me to explore. I’m looking forward to learning more about medication management as well as psychotherapy options like cognitive behavioural therapy and dialectical behaviour therapy.
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned on this journey is that it’s ok to ask for help when you need it. Life can be hard but asking for help is not a sign of weakness-- it’s a sign of strength! Knowing when you are feeling overwhelmed and having resources to turn to make all the difference in managing your condition around the clock.
Overall, 2021 will bring joys and challenges in living with my bipolar disorder but am confident about what lies ahead because of all the knowledge that has come into play on my journey thus far.
