Living with bipolar depression is hard, but it doesn’t have to be the end of the world. For me, having a strong support system has been paramount in keeping my symptoms under control. I also rely heavily on my therapist and psychiatrist to help me manage my mood swings.
I find that by being honest about how I am feeling at any given time helps immensely in regulating my emotions and overall well-being. Keeping a regular sleep schedule as well as engaging in activities that bring me joy – like painting – has helped me keep everything in balance.
My biggest takeaway from living with bipolar depression is that it’s important to remember to practice self-care. Learning how to recognize when I’m getting overstressed or overwhelmed allows me to take a step back and make sure I’m doing what’s necessary for both my physical and mental health.
There are times when it can all feel overwhelming, but ultimately I know that there are plenty of resources out there available for me if I need a little extra help. It’s all part of the process of living with this disorder – managing my moods won’t always be easy, but it’s something that’s totally attainable!
