I keep getting stuck on thoughts I don’t actually want to act on, and then I start treating the thought like it means something about me. It can be really specific and disturbing, or just a random impulse that gets repeated until it feels huge.
The worst part is checking myself afterward. Did I want that thought? Did I feel something for half a second? What if I’m lying to myself? I know this probably makes the whole thing louder, but stopping the checking is harder than it sounds.
I haven’t acted on these thoughts, and I don’t want to. Still, my brain keeps demanding certainty that I’m not dangerous or secretly going to do something. Does anyone else get trapped in that loop?

The checking afterward is what gets me too. I can spend ages reviewing one thought and trying to figure out whether my reaction was “wrong,” but that usually just creates another thing to analyze.
A thought popping up, or even a brief feeling before you have time to react, doesn’t automatically say anything about what you want. I’ve been trying to label it as an intrusive thought and leave it alone instead of arguing with it, even though the uncertainty feels awful at first. The fact that you don’t want to act on it matters, but you probably don’t need to keep proving that to yourself every time.

The part about one analysis creating another is exactly how it works for me too. I’ll think I’m checking for reassurance, then notice how I checked, and suddenly I’m analyzing that as well.
Labeling it and moving on sounds simple, but letting the uncertainty sit there is the hard part. I’ve had some luck returning to whatever I was doing without waiting to feel completely certain first.
