I feel completely drained and dont know how to pull myself out

I feel completely drained lately, like even basic things take more effort than I have. Getting out of bed, answering messages, eating something, all of it feels weirdly huge. I keep thinking I should be able to pull myself out of this, but I don’t even know where to start, and then feeling stuck makes me feel worse.

I’m trying not to treat this like a personal failure. For now I’m focusing on one small thing at a time, even if that just means drinking water or opening the curtains. It doesn’t fix everything, but doing nothing makes the day feel even heavier. I just wish I knew how to get some energy back.

The “personal failure” part really caught me. I’ve had days where answering one message felt like a full task, and judging myself for it only seemed to use up whatever energy was left.

Opening the curtains or drinking water is a solid place to start. I sometimes pick one thing that takes less than two minutes, then stop expecting myself to suddenly become productive. Have you noticed whether this drain is worse at a certain time of day, or has it been constant lately?

@Sarah_Kramer, I’ve noticed the drain is usually worst in the morning, especially after a poor night’s sleep. By late afternoon I may have a little more energy, but it’s not reliable.

The two-minute rule helps me too. I’ll choose something concrete, like taking my medication, making toast, or putting one dish away, and count that as enough for the moment. If this level of exhaustion keeps going, I think it’s worth checking in with a doctor rather than assuming I just need more discipline.
