You know, I’ve been thinking a lot about the journey I’ve been on regarding mental health lately. It’s kind of wild how many layers there are to it, right? For a long time, I thought I could handle everything on my own—like, why should I need help? But then I realized that not only was I not okay, but I was also missing out on some really valuable support.
Finding the right counselor was definitely a process. At first, I honestly didn’t even know what I was looking for. I tried a couple of different people, and it felt like dating in a way. You meet someone, and sometimes there’s this instant connection, but other times, it just doesn’t click. I remember sitting in a session with a counselor who just didn’t vibe with me at all; it felt more like a job interview than a conversation about my feelings. You can imagine how that went…
But then I found someone who really listened. It was refreshing! She didn’t just ask the usual questions; she genuinely seemed interested in understanding my story. We talked about everything—what was going on in my life, my struggles with anxiety, and even moments where I felt completely lost. I remember feeling a weight lift as I shared. It was like I could finally breathe again.
What struck me was how important it is to be open in that space. I think sometimes we hold back because we’re scared of judgment or just don’t know how to articulate what we’re feeling. But once I started being honest about my thoughts and fears, things started to shift. It made me realize that vulnerability is actually a strength. Have you ever experienced that in your own journey?
It’s not always easy, though. There are still days when I’m hesitant to talk about certain things, but I’m learning that those are often the moments that matter most. I’d love to hear if anyone else has had a similar experience with finding the right counselor or how they’ve navigated their own mental health journey. What worked for you? How did you know when you found the right fit?
