As a 53-year-old woman who has struggled with an eating disorder for most of my life, I never realized the impact it had on not only myself but also my family. Starting family-based therapy was a daunting experience, but I have found so much healing through it. It has allowed me to understand the underlying issues that contributed to my disorder, and it has brought my family closer together as we work through this as a unit. The support and understanding from my therapist and loved ones have been invaluable, and I am starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. It’s not easy, but I am determined to come out on the other side healthier and happier. I want to encourage anyone else struggling with an eating disorder to consider family-based therapy because it truly is a game-changer.
