Finding a bipolar therapist - my experience

I have recently decided to seek treatment for my bipolar disorder. This was an incredibly difficult decision for me to make as I’ve spent the majority of my life trying to manage my mental health on my own. After much deliberation, I am ready to take a proactive approach and make sure I’m getting the best care and treatment possible.

With this in mind, one of the first steps was to find a therapist who specializes in treating people with bipolar disorder. I didn’t know where to start so I sought advice from my primary doctor who provided me a list of recommended professionals.

My journey began with online research into each doctor’s credentials, specialties, educational backgrounds, and experience working with individuals with bipolar disorder. After much deliberation, I chose the right therapist for me based on a few factors.

Once I chose the therapist for me, it was time to start therapy sessions. The whole process can be intimidating but my therapist already put me at ease before our first session even started! During my initial assessment they asked both specific questions about how managing my bipolar has affected certain aspects of my life, as well as more general inquiries about any factors that might influence how we work together going forward.

I’m now very happy with my decision to find a therapist who specializes in treating people with bipolar disorder and am looking forward to continuing this journey towards improved mental wellness and overall lifestyle management!
