I’ve been experiencing some major ups and downs over the last few months, but until recently I had no idea why. Thanks to a combination of therapy and self-reflection, I discovered that the cause of my erratic moods was late onset bipolar disorder.
Realizing this certainly felt overwhelming since it meant coming to terms with an incurable condition. But it also gave me an answer and understanding for what I had been dealing with. It’s allowing me to work with my therapist to develop strategies for managing it.
At first I was very hesitant to start treatment because of its potential side effects. However, using prescribed medication and implementing lifestyle changes has been really impactful in helping me control my mood swings and remain stable longer.
I realize that this is just the beginning of a long journey, but knowing the source behind my symptoms has helped restore hope both for now and the future.
