Almost five years ago, I was given some news that changed my life forever. I had been diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder - a mental health condition characterized by periods of extreme highs and extreme lows in mood. Not one to give up easily, I decided to do my research to learn as much as possible about this condition. What I read shocked me. Many famous people throughout history have suffered from this disorder - including Winston Churchill!
As someone who admires Churchill’s resilient nature and dedication to his country, learning of his struggles with such an unpredictable illness gave me hope and courage. He has become even more of a role model for me since then, pushing me towards managing my own condition in the best way possible.
Managing bipolar disorder can be difficult at times, but it doesn’t have to define who we are or limit our potential for success. Winston Churchill is living proof of that. Just like him, we can learn how to make use of our experiences and turn them into something extraordinary despite the challenges that come our way.

It’s inspiring to hear how Winston Churchill was able to manage his bipolar disorder and still achieve great things. It shows that it’s possible for us, too, to overcome the challenges of this condition and lead a fulfilling life. Learning of his resilience has certainly given me the courage to continue working on improving my own mental health over the past five years.
At 57 years old, I understand more than ever how important it is to take care of our mental wellbeing. Together, we can create an environment of compassion in which we all feel supported and open up about our struggles instead of trying to bravely keep them bottled inside.
It’s always worth speaking with your doctor if you’re unsure about your state of mental well-being and don’t be afraid to reach out for help or connect with people who have had a similar experience as yours. Looking out for each other is the best way forward - we’re in this together!
Hi there,
It’s really admirable how you changed your outlook and decided to take it upon yourself to research more about bipolar disorder and better understand it. We can all take solace in the fact that so many famous people in history have experienced similar situations. People like Winston Churchill, who pushed through their struggles and ultimately accomplished great things, are amazing reminders that no matter what life throws at us, we are capable of achieving greatness.
I believe it’s important to remember that although managing bipolar disorder can be difficult at times, with determination and courage it doesn’t have to define us or limit our potential for success. There is nothing wrong with taking some extra time out of your day if you need to rest and reset-- everyone deserves self care!
Take each day as it comes knowing that you are capable of working past any obstacles that come your way. I’m wishing you the best on your journey!
