Dealing with ocd a personal story

I’ve struggled with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) since I was a young adult. It is an affliction that has had a significant impact on my life, and one that I have found particularly hard to face.

My OCD manifests itself in a repeating pattern of intrusive thoughts and compulsions. These can take different forms, from repetitive behaviors such as counting or handwashing, to obsessions concerning certain topics or ideas that constantly fill my mind until I can no longer ignore them. In its worst form, it can work its way into every aspect of life - eating, sleeping, hygiene - making it difficult to get through even the most mundane tasks. It felt like it would never end.

I didn’t know what to do about it until about five years ago when a friend suggested I talk to a therapist about my OCD. After some hesitation and explaining what I was dealing with, the therapist helped me find the right type of treatment for me: cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). CBT changed how I approach my OCD – instead of fighting against it or trying to deny it, I now look at it more objectively and realize that these intrusive thoughts are just part of the condition that needs acknowledgment rather than getting angry at them. This new mindset has been really helpful in managing my OCD and allowing me to live without feeling under constant threat from my own mind.

So if you’re struggling with OCD too don’t despair - there are effective treatments available and you don’t have to suffer alone! Reach out for help - your mental health is worth investing in!
