My mental health journey has been filled with many ups and downs. I have had the privilege of being diagnosed with dual disorder, a condition that involves symptoms of both bipolar disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). This combination brings unique challenges and obstacles to navigate each day.
When my symptoms first began to manifest, I did not know how to express what was happening inside me. It felt like a storm brewing and erupting without warning. My mind was spinning in circles of fear, anxiety, and sadness at a rapid pace and it left me feeling exhausted. The worst part was feeling completely out of control and powerless over my own emotions.
Fortunately, I found the courage to speak up about my situation and eventually received an accurate diagnosis. After this confirmation, I vowed to take control back over my life by embracing self-care strategies such as mindfulness, exercise, eating healthy meals, setting realistic goals for myself, doing activities for pleasure, practicing relaxation techniques like deep breathing or yoga postures, and most importantly connecting with supportive people in my life.
I know everyone’s struggle is unique but having someone who understands can truly make all the difference in your recovery process. Just remember you are never alone and there are so many resources out there for support including therapy or support groups that can help you on your journey to finding inner peace.
