Dealing with anxiety has been a big challenge in my life. As a busy person, I often experience feelings of stress and overwhelm. My usual strategy has been to try and keep pushing through but it doesn’t always work out well. Over the past few months, I have made some changes that have helped me make progress in dealing with my anxiety.
The first step was coming to terms with the fact that I could not continue the way things were going. The overwhelm was too much for me to deal with on my own so I started exploring different ways of managing it that would help me reach a healthier mental state.
One of these strategies has been meditation. This practice helps me to gain perspective and stay connected to myself so that when overwhelmed or anxious, I can recognize how I’m feeling and react accordingly rather than ignoring it and sinking further into negative emotions like fear or dread.
I also gave up alcohol as part of this journey. Knowing that drinking would only increase feelings of anxiety in the long run, staying away from it became an important decision for me to make in terms of redefining my relationship with alcohol and taking care of myself better overall.
I am actively working towards understanding what triggers my anxiety so that I can take action before it becomes too much for me to handle and be more in control over how I feel each day rather than reactive all the time. Doing yoga regularly, eating healthy foods, getting enough sleep - all these are essential parts of this process for me as well…
Deals effectively with my anxiety is still very much a work-in-progress but being honest about where I am starting from has helped ground me on this journey and accept how far I have come already as real progress!
