Cutting back on sugar seems to calm my anxiety a bit

I’ve been cutting back on sugar lately, mostly by dropping the really obvious stuff like soda, candy, and sweet snacks, and my anxiety seems a little calmer. I didn’t expect much from it, honestly. I figured I’d just be hungry and annoyed, but after a few days my thoughts didn’t feel quite so loud.

It’s not some huge dramatic change, and I still get anxious. I’ve also noticed that when I eat a lot of sugar, I get a quick boost and then feel shaky or restless afterward. That might be part of it. Or maybe I’m just sleeping a bit better because I’m not eating junk late at night.

Either way, I’m trying not to turn it into an all-or-nothing rule. Having something sweet doesn’t automatically ruin everything. I’m just paying attention to how I feel and keeping the everyday stuff lower in sugar.

That shaky, restless feeling after a sugar spike is something I’ve noticed too. It can make ordinary worries feel much louder than they did earlier in the day.

I like that you’re not treating it as an all-or-nothing rule. For me, replacing soda with water or something less sweet works better than trying to ban every treat. The improved sleep may be helping as much as the sugar reduction itself.

@Richard_Lopez, the late-night sweets caught my attention. I’ve noticed that skipping dessert right before bed helps me sleep more steadily, and the next morning I’m less keyed up.

I like your approach of keeping everyday sugar lower without making one treat feel like failure. That makes it much easier for me to stick with changes.
