Considering eden center after years of hiding my eating problems

I’ve spent years hiding how bad my eating problems have gotten, even from people close to me. I’m good at acting fine, then falling back into the same routines when nobody’s around. Lately I’m realizing that keeping it secret has taken more out of me than I wanted to admit.

I’ve been looking into Eden Center and wondering if it might be a good fit. Part of me feels relieved to have an actual treatment option in mind, and another part is nervous about being completely honest with strangers. I’m not sure what to expect from the intake process or from treatment there.

If anyone has been to Eden Center, what was the first step like?

@Katherine_Robertson, that part about acting fine and then slipping back into old routines when nobody’s around sounds exhausting. I’ve done enough hiding in my own life to know how much energy it takes just to keep the story straight.

I haven’t been through Eden Center, so I can’t tell you exactly how their intake works. Usually the first call is more of a basic conversation about what’s been happening, what kind of support you need, and whether their program fits. You probably won’t have to explain everything perfectly right away.

It may help to write down a few points beforehand, especially the things you tend to minimize. You can even tell them you’re nervous about being honest. That’s probably something they hear pretty often.

Writing down the things I tend to minimize helped me more than I expected. I brought a short list to an intake once because I knew I’d say “it’s not that bad” if I had to explain everything from memory.

The part about not needing to explain everything perfectly is reassuring too. Sometimes just admitting that I’m nervous has been the most honest place to start.
