It’s fascinating how something as ordinary as coffee can quietly change the way your whole day feels. I used to assume my anxiety was just getting worse on its own, but eventually I noticed a pattern: after a couple of strong coffees, I’d feel restless, tense, and oddly on edge. My thoughts would speed up, my heart would race, and small problems suddenly seemed much more urgent.
The tricky part was that caffeine also felt like a solution when I was tired. I’d reach for another cup, get a short burst of energy, and then spend the rest of the day feeling wound up. I didn’t connect the two right away because the anxiety didn’t always hit immediately.
I started cutting back gradually instead of quitting all at once, since the headaches were no joke. Switching to weaker coffee and avoiding caffeine later in the day made a bigger difference than I expected. I’m not saying caffeine was the only cause of my anxiety, but it was definitely turning up the volume.
Has anyone else noticed that caffeine affects their mood or anxiety more than they originally realized?
