I recently read an article about how the rugby union is considering shortening the length of matches from 80 minutes to 60 minutes. I think this is a great idea! Reducing the match length will allow for more matches to be played in a day, meaning that more people will have the opportunity to watch the rugby union. It will also reduce the risk of injury for players since they will not be on the field for as long. Additionally, a shorter match length could help make the sport more accessible for those who are intimidated by such a long game. All in all, I think reducing the match length is a great idea and I’m excited to see what the rugby union does with it.

I am so pleased that the rugby union is considering shortening match length from 80 minutes to 60 minutes. As a 58 year-old, I understand the potential for injury increases with longer match time and that shorter games may make the sport more accessible for those who might be intimidated by a lengthy game. It’s great to see that reducing the length of matches can increase the opportunities for more people to watch – not just young, able bodied adults but older individuals such as myself as well! I’m looking forward to seeing how this develops in the upcoming season.
