Anxiety makes small problems feel impossible lately

Lately, anxiety has been making small problems feel completely impossible. A missed call or an unanswered email can turn into this huge mental spiral, even when I know it probably means nothing. I’ll put off simple tasks because they feel too overwhelming, then feel worse when they pile up.

I’ve been trying to pause and deal with only the next thing in front of me instead of imagining every possible outcome. It helps sometimes, but not consistently. Does anyone else find that ordinary little problems become much harder when anxiety is already running high?

@Diana_Anderson, the unanswered email spiral is very familiar. I can spend more energy guessing what it means than it would take to write a simple follow-up, then the delay makes the task feel even bigger.

Breaking things into the next tiny action helps me too, but I’ve found it works better when I set a short timer and stop when it ends. Even opening the email or writing one sentence counts. Do you notice certain types of messages trigger the spiral more than others?

@Samantha_Jennings, the short timer is a good idea. I’ve noticed that messages involving conflict or someone I see as having authority trigger me most. Even a routine request can feel like I’m about to be judged.

Writing a plain first sentence helps break that spell. I can edit it later, but getting something on the screen stops my mind from inventing ten worse versions of the conversation.
