Anxiety keeps messing with my stomach and i dont know what helps

My anxiety keeps landing in my stomach lately. Sometimes it’s cramping, sometimes nausea, and sometimes just that tight, unsettled feeling that makes eating seem like a bad idea. Then I worry about the stomach pain, which obviously makes the anxiety worse. Very helpful cycle.

I’ve tried eating smaller meals, drinking water, cutting back on coffee, and using a heating pad. A few of those help a little, but nothing feels consistent. It’s frustrating because I can usually tell when stress is behind it, but knowing that doesn’t make the symptoms disappear.

I’m trying to remind myself that the sensation will pass instead of immediately assuming something is seriously wrong. Has anyone found one thing that reliably calms anxiety-related stomach symptoms?

@Tina_Sweeney, the thing that helped me most was slow breathing with a longer exhale while using a warm pack. I inhale for four counts, exhale for six, and repeat it for a few minutes instead of checking whether the nausea is gone. The longer exhale seems to settle the stomach tension a bit.

I also keep a few plain crackers nearby so I’m not trying to eat a full meal when my stomach feels tight. If the pain changes, becomes severe, or keeps happening outside stressful periods, I’d still get it checked rather than assuming it’s only anxiety.

The part about not checking whether the nausea is gone really makes sense. I tend to monitor every little stomach sensation, which keeps my attention locked on it and seems to make things worse.

I’m going to try pairing the longer-exhale breathing with a warm pack instead of waiting for the feeling to disappear immediately. Keeping crackers nearby sounds useful too, since an empty stomach can add another layer of discomfort.
