Affirmations that help me chill out and ease anxiety

I’ve been thinking a lot about how to manage anxiety lately, and one thing that keeps popping up is the power of affirmations. I used to be a bit skeptical about them—like, how can just saying something help? But then I started experimenting with a few phrases, and honestly, it’s been a game changer for me.

One of my go-to affirmations is, “It’s okay to feel this way.” It might sound simple, but whenever I remind myself that it’s alright to experience anxiety, it feels like a big weight is lifted off my shoulders. I mean, we all have those moments, right? It’s comforting to acknowledge that it’s a normal part of being human.

Another one I love is, “I am in control of my thoughts.” This one takes a bit more practice, but it helps me feel empowered. When my mind starts racing or spiraling, I repeat it a few times, and it kind of grounds me. I think a lot of us struggle with that feeling of losing control, especially when anxiety kicks in. So, having something positive to latch onto helps me redirect my focus.

Something I’ve found really interesting is how saying these affirmations out loud feels different than just thinking them. It can be a little awkward at first, but there’s something about hearing my own voice that makes it feel more real. Have any of you tried that? Do you think it makes a difference?

I also like to pair my affirmations with some deep breathing. I’ll take a moment to breathe in slowly, hold it for a second, and then breathe out while saying one of my affirmations. It’s like creating this little ritual that helps me pause and reset, especially if I’m feeling overwhelmed.

I’d love to hear if any of you have your own affirmations that work for you! Or maybe you’ve found other techniques that help with anxiety? It’s always great to share and learn from each other.
