Acute anxiety makes everything feel urgent even when nothing is happening

Acute anxiety makes everything feel urgent, even when nothing is actually happening. A normal email feels like bad news, a small task feels like a crisis, and sitting still somehow seems irresponsible.

My brain starts pushing me to fix everything immediately, but half the time there isn’t even a real problem to solve. I have to remind myself that the feeling of urgency is just a symptom, not proof that I’m in danger. Slowing down helps a little, especially when I name what’s actually happening instead of reacting to every thought.

@Jeremiah_Thomas, that distinction between urgency and actual danger is such a useful one. I’ve caught myself treating an unanswered email like it needs an emergency response, then realizing nothing has really changed except how activated I feel.

Naming the facts helps me too, especially when I keep it simple: “No bad news has arrived. I’m safe, and this can wait.” Do you have a particular way of slowing down that works before you start reacting?
