A quirky struggle with obsessive compulsive rhyming disorder

I wonder if anyone else has ever found themselves caught in a bit of a wordplay whirlwind? You see, I’ve been dealing with what I like to call “obsessive compulsive rhyming disorder.” It sounds a bit quirky, doesn’t it? But it’s a real thing for me, and it’s definitely a journey of its own.

It usually kicks in during the most mundane moments. I could be standing in line at the grocery store, and suddenly, I’m mentally crafting rhymes for every item I see. “Bread ahead, spread it with some red!” I’ve lost count of the odd looks I get from people nearby. It’s like my brain decides that any thought must be wrapped up in a perfectly rhymed package.

Sometimes I find it amusing, turning the boring into something creative. It’s kind of like having a personal soundtrack to my day. But, on other occasions, it can feel overwhelming. When you just want to focus on one thing and your mind is dancing around with “cat, hat, bat,” it can be a little exhausting.

I’ve noticed that when I’m feeling anxious or stressed, the rhyming ramps up even more. It’s almost like my brain is trying to find a rhythm to soothe itself. I think it’s fascinating how our minds work like that, trying to cope in the best way we know how.

Have any of you ever felt that way? I mean, not exactly with rhymes, but with something that just takes hold of your thoughts? It’s like a little reminder that our brains can be both our best friends and our worst enemies. Finding the balance is key.

I’ve learned to embrace it more as a quirky part of who I am. I’ve even started jotting down some of my favorite lines. Who knows? Maybe one day I’ll turn them into a fun little book of rhymes. If nothing else, it gives me a unique way to express myself, and that’s something I value.

So, here’s to the little quirks that make us who we are. I’d love to hear if anyone else has similar experiences or has found ways to navigate their own unique mental health journeys. What do you do when your mind takes you on a wild word adventure?
