Just Me and My OCD Perfectionism Thoughts
I’ve been doing a lot of reflecting lately, especially about my relationship with perfectionism and how it intertwines with my OCD. It’s kind of wild to think about, but sometimes it feels like I’m in this endless loop of trying to achieve something that’s just… unattainable.
I remember this one time when I was working on a project for school. I poured my heart and soul into it, but no matter how many hours I spent, I just couldn’t shake the feeling that it wasn’t good enough. I kept going back, tweaking tiny details that probably no one else would even notice. It’s funny, because while I was in the moment, I thought I was being diligent, but looking back, I realize how much pressure I was putting on myself. Does anyone else feel that way? Like you just can’t let go of those little imperfections?
It’s like this constant internal dialogue where I’m battling between wanting to be proud of my work and the nagging voice that tells me it’s simply not enough. The weird part is, I know it’s not a rational thought, but it feels so real. I mean, who decided that perfect is the only acceptable outcome?
I’ve started trying to shift my perspective a bit. Instead of aiming for perfection, I’m challenging myself to focus on progress. It’s a work in progress—no pun intended. Some days, I still fall into the trap of perfectionism, but I’ve found that reminding myself of how far I’ve come helps. I think it’s all about celebrating those small victories, right? Even if it means allowing for a few mistakes along the way.
What about you? Have you found any strategies that help when you’re caught in that perfectionism cycle? It’s definitely a journey, and I’d love to hear about what works for you, too!
