Title: dealing with anxiety and binge eating lately

Dealing with Anxiety and Binge Eating Lately

I’ve been reflecting a lot on my relationship with food and how it intertwines with my anxiety, and I thought I’d share some of my thoughts in case anyone else is in a similar boat. It’s been a bit of a rollercoaster lately, to say the least.

Sometimes, when anxiety creeps in, it feels like I lose my grip on just about everything, including my eating habits. It’s almost like I’m searching for a quick fix to soothe that inner turmoil. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve found myself mindlessly snacking or going all out on comfort foods during those anxious moments. I know I’m not alone in this—so many of us turn to food for a sense of control or a temporary escape.

What I find interesting is how certain foods can provide this instant comfort but often leave me feeling worse afterward. It’s like I’m caught in this cycle of relief and regret, which only adds to the anxiety I was trying to avoid in the first place. Have any of you experienced that feeling of using food to cope, only to end up feeling even more anxious afterward?

Lately, I’ve been trying to be more mindful about what I eat when I’m feeling anxious. I’m not saying that I have it all figured out, but I’ve started to notice patterns. For example, when I take a moment to pause and check in with myself before reaching for that snack, I often find that I’m not really hungry—I’m just looking for comfort. It’s helped me to step back and ask, “What do I really need in this moment?” Sometimes it’s a snack, and sometimes it’s just a break to breathe and reset my thoughts.

I’ve also been experimenting with different strategies, like keeping a journal or practicing some grounding techniques when anxiety hits. It’s surprising how simply writing down what I’m feeling can shift my focus. Instead of my mind racing toward food, I’m channeling those thoughts onto paper. It’s a small change, but it’s making a difference.

I’d love to hear from anyone else who’s navigating this tricky relationship with anxiety and eating. What has worked for you? Do you have any go-to strategies that help you cope without reaching for the fridge? Sharing ideas and experiences can be so powerful, and who knows—we might just help each other find some new paths to explore.
