Stress usually shows up in my body before I realize my mind is overwhelmed. I’ll get a tight jaw, tense shoulders, a weird stomach, or a headache that sticks around. Then I notice I’ve been rushing through everything and sleeping badly.

It’s frustrating because I often don’t feel mentally stressed at first. My body gives me the warning before I’m willing to admit I need to slow down. Lately I’ve been trying to treat those symptoms as a sign to pause instead of just pushing through them.

@Yolanda_Montgomery, the rushing really gets me too. I can think I’m fine, then realize I’ve been clenching my jaw and skipping meals without noticing.

Treating those signs as a cue to pause seems a lot more useful than waiting until everything piles up. I’ve started taking a few quiet minutes, drinking water, and checking whether I’m actually tired or just running on autopilot.

@Yolanda_Montgomery, the jaw clenching is usually my first clue too. I can be convinced I’m fine until I notice my teeth have been pressed together for half the day.

One thing that helped was setting a couple of phone reminders labeled “unclench.” When it goes off, I drop my shoulders, loosen my jaw, take a slow breath, and drink some water. It only takes a minute, but it often stops the tension from turning into a headache.

@Dennis_Mcbride, skipping meals is one of those signs I tend to dismiss until I’m suddenly irritable and unable to focus. By then, it’s harder to tell whether I’m stressed or just running on empty.

I like the idea of checking whether you’re tired or on autopilot. I’ve been trying to make that pause more practical by asking myself when I last ate, drank water, or took a real break. Do you have a specific time when you usually remember to check in, or is it more based on noticing the jaw clenching?
