Stress during the pandemic and what it taught me

You know, reflecting on the pandemic brings up a lot of mixed emotions for me. In a way, it was like being trapped in a surreal movie where the plot kept twisting. The stress was palpable — it crept into every corner of my life, whether it was worrying about loved ones, job security, or just the general uncertainty of what awaited us around the corner.

Before everything changed, I was someone who thrived on routine. The structure of my daily life provided a sense of stability that I didn’t realize I relied on so heavily. When the pandemic hit, that routine shattered. Suddenly, I found myself juggling work-from-home chaos, homeschooling, and the constant anxiety that came with being glued to the news cycle. It was overwhelming, to say the least.

But, interestingly enough, amid all that stress, I learned some valuable lessons about myself. For one, I discovered the importance of taking a step back. At first, I was all in, trying to manage everything at once. But I realized that it was okay to pause and breathe. I started taking short walks in the morning — just me and the fresh air. Those moments became a lifeline, a way to clear my head and find some peace.

I also found out how vital human connection is. Virtual meetups became our lifeline, and while they weren’t the same as sitting across the table from someone, they helped me feel less isolated. I started reaching out to friends I hadn’t spoken to in ages. I think we often get caught up in the daily grind and forget to check in on each other. The pandemic reminded me that it’s never too late to reconnect.

Another surprising realization was the power of gratitude. At first, it felt a bit forced to list things I was thankful for in such a challenging time, but I pushed through. I began to appreciate the small moments — a sunny day, a good book, or a shared laugh with family over dinner. Shifting my focus to gratitude helped me cope with the heaviness of it all.

I’m curious, how did everyone else navigate their stress during those chaotic times? What lessons did you take away from that experience? I think it’s important to share these stories and insights; they can really help us all feel a bit more connected and supported.
