Ptsd and trust issues after infidelity

I’ve been thinking a lot about the connection between PTSD and trust issues, especially when it comes to navigating relationships after experiencing infidelity. It’s wild how deeply these things can intertwine, isn’t it?

A while back, I went through something really challenging. It wasn’t just about the infidelity itself, but all the feelings that bubbled up afterward. I remember feeling like my whole world was shaken. The trust I had built was suddenly in pieces, and I was left trying to pick them up while grappling with the echoes of past trauma.

It’s strange how our brains work. Even when you try to tell yourself that not everyone will betray you like that, the heart tends to hold onto those fears. I found myself constantly doubting every little thing in my new relationship. Was that text message innocent, or was there something more? Was I just being paranoid? It felt like I was stuck in a loop, replaying old patterns that didn’t even relate to my current situation.

What’s been interesting is how much I’ve learned about myself through this. Therapy has been a huge help, allowing me to sift through the layers of both the PTSD and the trust issues. I’ve realized that healing isn’t a linear path; some days, I feel like I’m making progress, and other days, it feels like I’m right back at square one.

I think the key for me has been open communication. I’ve tried to articulate my feelings to my partner, even when it’s uncomfortable. I still get that knot in my stomach when I have to talk about my fears, but it’s been a relief to have a safe space to express myself. It’s definitely a work in progress, though.

I’m curious if others have experienced similar challenges. How do you navigate trust when you’ve been through something that shook your foundation? What helps you feel secure again? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
