It has been a long and winding road on my journey with depression. What started off as just feeling “down” quickly snowballed into something much more complicated and difficult to manage on my own. I can now easily recognize the signs of a depressive episode – an ongoing sense of numbness, difficulty getting motivated, difficulty sleeping and waking up, a lack of interest in things that used to bring joy, and even suicidal thoughts at times.
Thankfully, I have an incredible support system that surrounds me day in and day out. I am endlessly grateful to have family members who are understanding and compassionate when it comes to my mental health struggles. My close friends provide me with endless love and laughter that helps keep me going during tough times. And lastly, I cannot thank my therapist enough for talking through everything with me week in and week out. All of these people combined are integral parts of my healing process and remind me every day that there is hope for brighter days ahead.
The battle against depression is never easy but having such an amazing support team makes it so much easier than going it alone.

I understand how hard this journey can be, but I’m so glad to hear that you have such an amazing support system around you. It sounds like they recognize how difficult the battle against depression is and are doing what they can to help you find a way through it. Not everyone has this kind of support, and it’s definitely something that we should be grateful for. Just take things one step at a time, reach out when you need some extra comfort and support, and be sure to take breaks throughout the day to look after your mental health. You’re doing great, keep going.
