Finding my way through erp and ocd

You know, reflecting on my journey with ERP and OCD really makes me appreciate how far I’ve come. It’s wild to think about how my mind used to race with all those intrusive thoughts, convincing me that I had to act on every single one. I remember feeling trapped, like I was in this never-ending loop of worries that just wouldn’t let up.

When I first learned about Exposure and Response Prevention therapy, I was honestly a bit skeptical. The thought of intentionally confronting my fears? It felt intimidating, to say the least. But I also felt this glimmer of hope—that maybe, just maybe, I could reclaim some control over my life.

I started small, exposing myself to situations that triggered my anxiety while resisting the compulsions that followed. It was terrifying at first, but as I took those baby steps, I began to see things shift. The first time I faced one of my biggest triggers without giving in? It was a huge victory. I still celebrate those moments, even the tiny ones, because they remind me that progress isn’t always about the big leaps—sometimes it’s about the little steps we take every day.

One thing that surprised me was how empowering it felt to confront my fears. Each time I resisted the urge to engage in a compulsion, I felt a little spark of resilience building inside me. It’s like I was sending a message to my brain that I was in charge, not the OCD. I know everyone’s journey is different, but finding that strength within myself has been a game-changer.

If you’re navigating this path, I want to say: be kind to yourself. It’s okay to have setbacks and tough days. They don’t define your progress. We all have our own timelines, and that’s perfectly fine.

I’m curious, what have been some of your experiences? Have you found any particular strategies or moments that have helped you along the way? Let’s share our stories—they could be the encouragement someone else needs today!
