Finding Balance With Schizophrenia and Eating Behaviors

As a 48-year-old woman living with schizophrenia, I have found that one of the biggest challenges I face is maintaining healthy eating behaviors. The medication I take can sometimes affect my appetite, and there have been times when I have struggled with overeating or not eating enough. It’s been a journey of ups and downs, but I have learned some strategies that have helped me find more balance. Seeking support from a therapist and nutritionist has been incredibly beneficial, as they have helped me develop a healthier relationship with food and my body. I also make an effort to practice mindful eating, paying attention to my hunger and fullness cues. It’s not always easy, but I’ve found that small, consistent steps make a big difference. I want to encourage others in a similar situation to be gentle with themselves and seek the support they need. We are all capable of finding balance and healing, even in the midst of our struggles.
